How about improving your portraits? There are easy techniques that will better your portrait pictures, here are some tricks to get you started:
One of the easiest digital photography tricks to apply would be to have the model rotate their head a little. A lot of beginner photographers, I include myself in this as well, would just tell the subject to say cheese and would immediately snap the picture. I have now changed my procedure, I see how they have their head and tell them to tilt it just slightly, this way it is not parallel to the camera.
A variation to this idea is to ask the subject rotate their body. With this technique, they can have their head positioned straight ahead, in this case their body adds an angle to the photography. This will help the photo not look as flat.
Another helpful technique to employ is to take some time at the begin your photography shoot and converse with the model. Don’t go in and begin shooting pictures. If you spend some time with the model and ask some questions, find out about a few of their interests and ease any stress , your photographs will look less staged and a lot more natural.
Also, you may find an activity that they enjoy and be able to add an item with the model in the photograph that captures more of their authentic self.
Some digital photography tricks can change the appearance of your subject. Say you need your subject to look slimmer, shoot the photo from above. If you take a picture from below the model, they might appear larger.
Some digital photography tricks are very simple, apply something as simple as changing your angle. Move directly above the model and take the photograph looking straight down. Zoom in to reveal only a small portion of their face. Get inventive, that is what photography is all about. When you look at a model and the entire surroundings, think about what other photographers would do and create a different way to capture the picture.
I trust that the above-mentioned digital photography tricks sharpen your portraits at your next photography shoot! So, get out there and try them and, as always, say Cheese (American, on a grilled cheese sandwich)
